Gender determination

Deciding the gender of your kittens when you are completely new is not always an easy task.
Remember it's more usual to mistake a girl for a boy than the opposite.
If you make sure to learn the basic genetics so that you know the inheritance of the base colors (Red and Black), this might help you a lot.
For example, let's say you have a tortie girl who you mated to a black male, then you know that any red kitten coming out is a boy and you can use that kitten to compare to the other kittens, but this will not always help you but at least you have something to go on where you can compare kittens and try to decide.

Remember that a newborn kitten especially female kittens might be a bit swollen which might make us think that the kitten is a boy.

It looks almost like an upside-down ( ! ).

Compared to a girl, you can see that it looks more like an ( 8 ).
It's a lot more space in between.

Female:  I added red lines so that you could see the two skin folds.
Many new breeders mistake it for a scrotum.

Male: Here you can clearly see the hairy area between the anus,
an the urinary trackt. You can also see that there is a longer distance.
